From molecule to society
The Department of Health Science and Technology has a long and strong tradition for co-operating nationally and internationally with private companies and public institutions and organizations.
At The Department of Health Science and Technology we:
- Focus on contributing to develop industry and health sector with new research-based knowledge for diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitation purposes - and we want to let industry become part of this process by entering into close co-operation with companies and public organizations within the health sector.
- Strongly believe that inventions and state-of-the art research can lead to great commercial results. Co-operating with the sourrounding health industry is therefore essential in order to increase market value for the industry.
We constantly strive towards improving health throughout society by conducting research with the clear goal of developing new health technologies and devices, methods and treatments. In 1981 the first biomedical company was spun out from the biomedical research environment and in 2006 our first innovation strategy was formulated. Concurrently with our increased collaboration activities with companies and public institutions and thereby our surrounding society and its citizens, we have built a unifying platform; EIR Empowering Industry and Research. Since 2011 EIR has formed and facilitated the foundation for new partnerships and has strengthened our strategical path.
Eir - Our unifying research-based innovation and collaboration platform
EIR – Empowering Industry and Research is the unifying research-based innovation and collaboration platform within health science and technology at The Department of Health Science and Technology at The Faculty of Medicine, Aalborg University.
EIR is also the unifying platform for research-based business development and collaboration within health science and technology in North Denmark anchored in a partnership between Aalborg University, Aalborg University Hospital, and the North Denmark Region. All municipalities and hospitals in the North Denmark region and an array of Danish and international companies are furthermore active EIR partners.
At the Department of Health Science and Technology we offer a number of collaboration possibilities. You can browse through our innovation and industry co-operation related activities in the below section.
JOINT EIR INNOVATION MODEL
The partners of Eir have developed a joint innovation model. The model contains both linear and iterative aspects between and within the different innovation phases. The basis of the model is interdisciplinarity coupled with domain knowledge across disciplines and sectors. The model takes its starting point in a relevant problem and focuses on user involvement, which is consistent with Eir´s vision to offer tests and clinical trials of new products and solutions.
